Get to Know the PTO: Co-Vice President

I'm Ashley, one of the new PTO Co-Vice Presidents! I'm so excited to work with Teresa and the rest of the PTO Board to build on the awesome foundation set for us at Brookview and provide a space for people to connect and be known.

I bit about me . . .
I was born and raised in West Des Moines, spent 9 years away from Iowa, and moved home four years ago to raise our kids where we grew up, surrounded by family.
This year, I will have a preschooler, 1st-grader, and 3rd-grader.
When my kids started at Brookview, I wish I knew . . . what a uniquely diverse place it is.
One thing I wish people know about the Brookview PTO is . . . it’s a great way to meet people.
The best thing about volunteering at Brookview is . . . helping and feeling invested in the school.
The most interesting places I’ve lived are . . . Germany and Japan.
My day is better when . . . I wake up before the rest of the household.
I look up to . . . my parents and grandparents.
People usually ask me for help with . . . writing and editing.
One of my happy places is . . . the wooded area and egg sculptures behind the Des Moines Art Center.
People would be surprised to know that . . . our three kids were born overseas (2 in Japan, 1 in Germany)!
I never have time to . . .read.
I have an irrational fear of . . . mice.
The job I would be terrible at is . . . a dentist or animal control worker.
I wish I knew more about . . . physics.
I would like to master the skills of . . . woodworking and sewing.
My favorite dessert is . . . anything almond/almond extract flavored (think Dutch Letters).
My family’s First Day of School traditions are . . . cinnamon rolls for breakfast and outdoor pictures.
One more thing I want to do as a family before summer break ends . . . go on a family bike ride.
